I was informed today that, as part of a regional Disaster Response Exercise involving Amazon Disaster Relief and local public safety and government agencies, a helicopter will be landing on the Village Green field adjacent to the school tomorrow, August 27, 2026, between 11:00 and 11:30 a.m.
Please be aware that this is a large helicopter and will generate significant noise and downwash during its arrival and departure. The downwash may cause loose objects, sand, and dust in the surrounding area to blow around.
We wanted to make families aware in advance so that you are not alarmed if you see or hear the helicopter near the school. This is a planned training exercise and not an emergency involving Indian Head Elementary.

CCPS is hosting a bus hotline prior to the start of school on Aug. 20-21. This information will also be posted to School Locator. CCPS will update the platforms as bus route information is added and finalized. CCPS will begin to load bus information into ParentVue/StudentVue the week of Aug. 17. Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) has a new mobile app that features push notification alerts, translated content based on the user’s preferred language and access to the new two-way parent communication tool called Rooms (launching the week of Aug. 17).
